Sharron was a brave solider who was killed in Iraq.

Staff Sergeant Sharron Elliott, who grew up in Suffolk was one of four people killed in an attack on a Multi-National Forces boat patrol on the Shatt Al-Arab waterway on Sunday, November 12 - she had been serving in Iraq for just over a week.

Sharron was the second female British solider to die during the war in Iraq.

Staff Sgt Elliott joined the Army at 18 and spent her early career in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, proving herself when she qualified as an aircraft technician, the first female to do so in the army.

She the transferred to the Intelligence Corps and served in Germany and Belize, as well as completing a number of operational tours including service in Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Iraq.

She was born and brought up in Ipswich and moved to the North East in 1998.

She had four siblings, two of whom are still serving in the Army.

Staff Sgt Elliott had recently been posted to Cyprus from the Defence College of Intelligence where she had been a highly successful instructor.

Sharron- a real star

I knew Sharron from Basic Training in Guildford in June 1991- August 1991. She was always kind and considerate and was always ready to help colleagues who were struggling and was very patient and kind. She even at a young age had a special ability to be still and listen, she had a kind heart and was a very calm person and was very able and quick to learn. She had a wacky sense of humour and loved a laugh. I have memories of her playing her music really loud and bopping round the room laughing. She loved a track called "Hysteria" I remember and would play it over and over at top volume.

I am sorry her life was cut short as she had so much promise and I wish I had kept more in touch with her.

RIP Sharron

Lest We Forget

I had the fortune to have known Sharron in Cyprus,
learnt my lesson playing Hockey against such a determined young woman and was a challenge passing her on a run.

It was a great honour laying a wreath for Sharron at her memorial in Hadleigh
and attending the War Memorial redidication ceremony on 11-11-09.

I also laid a wreath in her honour at The National Memorial Arboretum where her name is inscribed on the Wall with thousands of other brave service men and service women who gave their lives for theie country.

Rest in Peace Sharron

LEST WE FORGET

The most caring, considerate and fiercely determined lady I have ever encountered - Sharron. A unique and very special woman I both loved and lost. Have cried, have been angry, have been silent up until now. Words just do not and cannot ever describe the light you brought to so many lives in so short a time. There will always be a space in my heart for you.

Elsie, my thoughts and best wishes to you and your family.

"My Sharona"

Hi kid,
I remember when we first worked together in Northern Ireland. We didn't see eye to eye at first. The truth is we annoyed the hell out of each other.

Then one night after a few beers, we discovered how similar we were. We shared the same concerns over career, past and present loves, family etc. You were the first person at wok I told about my newborn daughter.

Although you were beautiful and genteel, you could hold your own against the lads.

I'm so sorry you have gone. For a while I was envious. You died doing something you loved instead of fading away in some corner. Most people won't understand that statement, some may even find it offensive. I'm sure you understand.

My best memory of you is on one of our trips into Belfast, You, me, Jason Wheatley, Baz Wheeler and Lee Lumb were all piled into Jason's Ford Escort. Jase had "My Sharona" by "The Knack" on CD and would play it over and over again, really loud because he knew it would annoy you.
You wold say "Oh God, not this song again" but you would sing and bang your head as loud and as hard as the rest of us.

Every time I hear that song, I dance, I shed a tear, but mostly I smile.

I love you kid.

I miss you crazy chick!

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.
